Lost your motivation to workout ? Meet wheelchair racer Esa-Pekka Mattila and forget your excuses:

My discipline in para-athletics is 100m wheelchair racing, class T54. Without going too deep in the classification, basically the higher the latter number, the lesser the injury. The first number tells the classification class. So in my class the 5 means spinal-related injury. The classification 4 something is then amputees, etc. In wheelchair racing the T54 is the highest class, therefore anyone “over” a certain injury (that should be 56) still competes in the 54. About the classification you can check more from .

So far I’ve been twice junior world championship Bronze medalist in 100m and 200m in 2011, 4th in the European Champs 2012, 15th in the London Paralympics, 9th in the 2013 World Champs and 5th and 6th in the European Champs 2014. My current aim for this year is the final in 2015 World Champs in Doha and naturally from there the Rio 2016 Paralympics and a medal from there.

My disability is caudal regression and I have had it from birth. It affects my lower limbs, so the whole physiological development is regressed in my lower body. In short, my legs don’t work as they should, such as muscular, neural, movement, etc. are underdeveloped. I began walking with walking sticks (crutches) when I was 3 years old and now I also use wheelchair on a daily basis. Because of these two and a history of athletics and swimming in competitive level, my upper body has developed quite a lot.
